Eni Mozambico S.p. He is preparing to run the first research well in the A5-A area, off the Angoche district, Nampula Province.
For this purpose, on the coast of Pemba, there is already the drilling platform West Capella, owned by Aquarill, hired by the dealers of the area, led by Eni and whose logistics base will be based in Pemba.
This development occurs following the completion of the work on the evaluation of oil potential in the concessionate area, an integrated activity in the Work Programme agreed with the Government, under the Grant Agreement for Research and Production (CCPP), initialled in December 2018, during the Fifth Competition for the Grant of Areas for Research and Hydrocarbon Production, which became effective in January of the following year.
The assessment of the oil potential during this first research sub-period of the area culminated in the identification of two main prospectuses, namely Raia and Jamanta. Consequently, the Italian oil company and its partners decided to run a well in the Raina prospectus, with a start forecast later this April.
One of the purposes of drilling the Raia-1 well is to investigate the presence of hydrocarbons in turbidity complexes in the Tertiary. To this end, this well is programmed to reach a depth of 3425 meters MD.
It should be noted that this is the first research well in this part of the Mozambique Basin that will have the particularity of allowing the collection of geological information and the oil potential of this region.
The A5-A area is located off the coast of Angoche, in the province of Nampula, at a depth of water blade ranging from 300 to 1800 meters. With an extension of 4,612 km2, this is approximately 30 km from Angoche, about 400 km from Pemba ( Operator's logistic base) and 220 km from Nacala.
The Consortium that operates in the area is currently formed by Eni Mozambico S.p.A. which holds 49.5% of participatory interest; Qatar Energy Mozambique, Limited with 25.5%; Sasol Petroleum Mozambique Exploration Lda, with 10.0% and the National Hydrocarbon Company E.P. with 15%, respectively.
