INP and GeoPartners Sign New Agreement
The contract was signed by the Chairman of the Board of Directors (PCA) of the INP, Nazário Engineer Bangalane, and by the legal representative of Geopartners, Jim Gulland, marking a further advance in the strategy of valuing the national oil potential and consolidating the role of the INP as a Regulator of Oil, responsible for ensuring that the activities of research, development and production of hydrocarbons are conducted with technical rigor, transparency and in accordance with the strategic interests of the Mozambican State.
The 3rd Competition for the Acquisition of Seismic Data (2D, 3D) and Potentials (Gravimetric and Magnetic Air), is part of the Government's strategy for the development of the oil and gas sector, and aims to deepen the geological knowledge of the national sedimentary basins, through their detailed mapping, allowing a more accurate assessment of the oil potential of the country. Thus, the allocation of the AS6-25 area, located in the Angoche maritime region in the Mozambique Basin, to GeoPartners reinforces the commitment to increase Mozambique's competitiveness in attracting investments and consolidating the country as a reference destination for key actors in the global oil market.
Under the reference contract, GeoPartners will acquire a minimum of 12000 Km2 of 3D multi-client seismic data, contributing to the provision of technical information, essential to boost future hydrocarbon research and production activities in Mozambique.
The selection of GeoPartners resulted from a rigorous process of technical evaluation, in which 14 areas were also awarded to the other 5 companies specializing in the acquisition of seismic data, namely:
- SLB, 4 areas (AS1 25, AS2 25, AS7 25, AS8 25) for the acquisition of 3D Seismic;
- Viridien Group, 1 area (AS3 25) for the acquisition of 3D Seismic.
- GeoEx, 1 area (AS5 25) for the acquisition of 3D Seismic;
- TGS, 7 areas (AS1 25, AS2 25, AS3 25, AS4 25, AS7 25, AS9 25, AS10 25) for the acquisition of 2D Seismic and 2 areas (AGM2 25, AGM3 25) for Gravimetric and Magnetic Air Data; and
- Bravery, 1 area (AGM1 25) for the acquisition of Gravimetric and Magnetic Air Data.
During the ceremony, the PCA of the INP, the National Engineer Bangalane, highlighted the strategic importance of the contract to achieve the sector's development objectives and said that the instrument "represents a further step in the implementation of the strategy for maximizing national geological knowledge, allowing Mozambique to strengthen its position as an attractive destination for investments that contribute to boost the development of the hydrocarbon sector."
