The natural gas from the Pande, Temane and Inhassoro deposits will enable the generation of 450 Megawatts of electricity to feed the country and export to the region, through the Temane Thermal Plant.
It is the first gas power station of this size, built in the country after national independence, which will produce clean energy, an important fact and a great highlight, particularly at this stage when Mozambique sets the benchmarks for its Energy Transition Strategy.
The fact is that the construction of this project was initiated in March 2022 and is carried out as planned, and its entry into operation for 2024. The project is part of the policy of the Government of Mozambique which has adopted as a priority to boost industrial development through the use of natural gas, creating an attractive legal framework for investors. It is within this framework that a public-private partnership formed by Globeleq, EDM and SASOL obtained a concession valid for 25 years and, at the end of the Contract, the asset must be transferred to the Mozambican State.
This project is expected to increase about 16% of the installed energy production capacity in the country, contributing to the response to the demand of about 1.5 million families, under the Universal Access to Energy Programme, by 2030.
CTT is held at 85% by Mozambique Power Invest (MPI) and 15% by Sasol Africa. MPI is owned by Globeleq (76%) and EDM (24%).
