One More Natural Gas Discovery in Rovuma Basin Area 1 – May 2012

The National Petroleum Institute announces the discovery of natural gas by Anadarko, operator of Area 1, offshore Rovuma Basin trough the Golfinho exploration well.

Maputo, November 28th 2011 - Successful Appraisal at Barquentine-3 Well in the Rovuma Basin Offshore Area 1, Mozambique

The Government of Republic of Mozambique trough the Ministry of Mineral Resources (MIREM) and the National Petroleum Institute (INP) and operators for the Area 1 led by Anadarko Petroleum Mozambique Area 1 Lda (subsidiary of American multinational Anadarko Petroleum Corporation) is pleased to announce the successful Barquentine-3 appraisal well has encountered more than 662 net feet (202 meters) of natural gas pay in two high-quality Oligocene-aged fan systems.

Maputo, October 27th 2011 - An Update on Mamba South Prospect, Rovuma Basin Offshore Area 4, Mozambique

The Government of Republic of Mozambique trough the Ministry of Mineral Resources (MIREM) and the National Petroleum Institute (INP) announce an update on the gas discovery at the Mamba South-1 prospect in the Area 4 Offshore Mozambique Rovuma Sedimentary Basin at Cabo Delgado Province.

Maputo, October 3RD 2011 - New Exploration and Appraisal Success in the Rovuma Basin Offshore Area 1, Mozambique

The Government of Republic of Mozambique trough the Ministry of Mineral Resources (MIREM) and the National Petroleum Institute (INP), is pleased to announce that the Anadarko Petroleum Mozambique Area 1 Lda have found natural gas in “an excellent-quality reservoir” at the Camarao well in Offshore deepwater Area 1 of the Rovuma Basin, which has therefore substantially increased its estimated reserves in Offshore Area 1 to at least 10 Tcf (trillion cubic feet) of recoverable natural gas resources.

Maputo, June 16th 2010 - Mozambique 4th Licensing Round Applications

The National Petroleum Institute (INP) of Mozambique announces the closure of the Fourth Mozambique Licensing Round. The round commenced 4th November 2009 and companies had seven and half months to evaluate the available technical data and formulate their applications.

INP is pleased to advise that it has received 6 applications for 11 licenses as follows:
Cape Town, November 4th 2009 - Mozambique 4th Licensing Round announced
At the Africa Upstream Conference, the Institute of National Petroleum of Mozambique (INP), announced the opening of the 4th competitive bidding round to explore for hydrocarbons onshore Mozambique. There are seven Areas on offer (over 146,000 sq km), located within the Mozambique Basin, Zambezi Graben and Maniamba Basin and all the information is available on www.inp-mz.com.

The 4th License Round close on Friday 30th of April allowing some 6 months to prepare their technical evaluation. Companies may apply for both full Exploration (EPCC) or Reconnaissance (RCC) contracts.

Maputo, September 12th 2008 - Mozambique Third Licensing Round Results

The Institute of National Petroleum of Mozambique (INP), is pleased to announce the results of the competitive bidding round to explore for hydrocarbons for nine separate defined areas within the Central and Northern Mozambique Basin.

AREA A, Sasol Petroleum International (Pty) Limited, South Africa ~ 8,373 km2.

AREA B, OSHO Consortium ~ 10,957 km2.

Maputo, October 20th 2011 - 1st Giant Gas Discovery in the Rovuma Basin Offshore Deepwater Area 4, Mozambique

The Government of Republic of Mozambique trough the Ministry of Mineral Resources (MIREM) and the National Petroleum Institute (INP), is pleased to announce that the Italian oil company ENI, have made the 1st giant natural gas discovery at the Mamba South 1 prospect, in the Area 4 Offshore Rovuma Sedimentary Basin at Cabo Delgado Province - Mozambique.

Maputo, June 2nd 2008 - Mozambique Third Licensing Round Closes

The Institute National Petroleum (INP) of Mozambique today announces the closure of the third Mozambique License Round. The License Round commenced on the 6th December 2007 and companies have had some 6 months to evaluate the available technical data and formulate their bids.
INP is pleased to advise that it has received license applications from:

  • SASOL Petroleum International, South Africa (www.sasol.com) - Operator.
  • OSHO consortium which would include; OPII - Orient Petroleum International Inc. (www.opii.com) - Operator ETA Star Holdings Ltd. (www.etaascon.com) OSHO Energia Limitada, Mozambique.

The round is a competitive bid process and INP will now evaluate the applications on defined criteria which include HSE, financial strength, technical capability and support to Mozambique. Successful applicants will be granted an Exploration and Production Concession Contract (EPC).
INP anticipates that it will announce the results by the end of June 2008.

Cape Town, 2nd November - INP Announces 3rd Mozambique Licensing Round

Africa Upstream Conference - Cape Town. INP Press Release. The National Petroleum Institute (INP) of Mozambique is providing advanced notice of the Third Mozambique licensing round for exploration acreage (both onshore and offshore). The official launching of the licensing round will be announced in a function to be conducted by the INP at the Geological Society, Burlington House, Piccadilly, London, W1J 0BG, at 10:30 am on Thursday 6th December 2007. The round will close on June 1st 2008 allowing companies some 6 months to make technical evaluation of the acreage and formulate applications. Senior representatives from INP will be available to answer questions.

Pemba, 18th April 2007 - Artumas signs Rovuma Onshore EPC
The Minister of the Mineral Resources, Ms. Esperança Bias, signs on April 18, 2007, in the city of Pemba, the Exploration and Production Contract for Concession for Rovuma Onshore Area, with consorting Artumas Moçambique Petróleos, Limitada and Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH).

Artumas Moçambique Petróleos, Limitada was a warded the concession Area in 2006. The Rovuma Onshore is located at Rovuma Basin in the Province of Cabo Delegado (Cape Delgado).

Pemba, 20th December 2006 - Anadarko signs Rovuma Offshore Area 1 EPC
Anadarko Petroleum Corporation (NYSE:APC) today announced it has signed an exploration and production concession contract with the Government of Mozambique for Offshore Area 1 in the Rovuma Basin. Anadarko was awarded the block in Mozambique 's second licensing round earlier this year.

London, 6th December - INP Launches 3rd Mozambique Licensing Round

Burling House, Geological Society - London. The official launch of the "Mozambique Third Licensing Round" was made at the Geological Society in London by His Excellency The High Commissioner of Mozambique, Mr Antonio Gumende and the meeting conducted by Mr Arsenio Mabote, Chairman of the Institute National Petroleum (INP). The function was attended by more than 30 companies, with many other companies.
